Correspondence with Colorado College
Follow the conversation that H.J.L. Stark and Earnest B. Fowler, Colorado College football manager, and S. W. Kittleman, Colorado College's previous years' football manager, had through letters and telegrams as they discuss a possible football game between the universities.
December 20, 1909
Letter from S.W. Kittleman and Kenneth Krahl, former football manager at Univesity of Texas, inquiring if the University of Texas is interested in playing a football game with Colorado College this season. Kittleman goes on to say that the Colorado Athletic Conference meets soon to arrange a football schedule and would like to know if they should consider a trip to Texas.
December 31, 1909
Letter from H.J.L. Stark to S.W. Kittleman stating he would be glad to submit open dates for a football game, November 12th at El Paso, Texas and November 19th & 24th at Austin Texas. Stark goes on to ask what guarantee would Colorado College like for a game in Texas and if Colorado College plans on playing any other football games during the trip to Texas.
January 9, 1910
A two-page letter from Ernest B. Fowler to H.J.L. Stark states that the three dates Stark mentioned in his letter of December 31st are already filled with various teams within the state of Colorado. Fowler goes on to say that Colorado College has October 22nd open for a football game in either El Paso or Austin. Fowler also mentions that the Colorado Athletic Conference, which Colorado College is a member, has recently made a ruling that no conference team can be allowed to play a football team that does not have similar rules. Fowler asks Stark several questions about the University of Texas athletics rules.
January 13, 1910
Letter from H.J.L. Stark to Ernest B. Fowler stating that the University of Texas can't play a football game on the 22nd of October. Stark goes on to say that UT can only offer a date in November for a football game. Stark mentions that if Colorado College changes its mind for a football game in Texas he is enclosing the University of Texas "Handbook of our Athletic Council".
January 17, 1910
Letter from Ernest B. Fowler to H.J.L. Stark stating how sorry he is to hear that the University of Texas is not able to play Colorado College on October 22nd. Fowler also mentions that Colorado College football schedule is filled and is unable to play a football game on any day but October 22nd.
January 26, 1910
Telegram from H.J.L. Stark to Ernest B. Fowler asking what guarantee would Colorado College offer for a football game on October 30th.
January 27, 1910
Telegram from Ernest B. Fowler to H.J.L. Stark stating that October 22nd is the only open date Colorado College has with a guarantee of $1500.
January 29, 1910
Telegram from H.J.L. Stark to Ernest B. Fowler stating the University of Texas will play on October 22nd for an $1100 guarantee.
January 31, 1910
Telegram from Ernest B. Fowler to H.J.L. Stark stating Colorado College is unable to play a football game for the season for the schedule is full.
February 1, 1910
Telegram from H.J.L. Stark to Ernest B. Fowler asking if Fowler would be able to rearrange the Colorado College schedule so that they could play the University of Texas on October 22nd for a $1200 guarantee.
