Mike McTigue
Mike McTigue was born in Lickau, Ireland on November 26, 1892. After turning 21, McTigue travelled to the United States to begin his boxing career. In 1923, McTigue fought Battling Siki for the world light heavyweight championship. He claimed the title and proceeded to defend it until 1925, when he lost to Paul Berlenbach. He faced other renowned fighters such as Jeff Smith, Mickey Walker, and Harry Greb, to whom he lost. He did, however, prevail over Tommy Loughran and Tiger Flowers. In a memorable match, McTigue avenged himself against Berlenbach in 1927 in only four rounds. After a career that spanned two decades, McTigue was forced to retire when his boxing license was revoked. He passed away in 1966 after suffering from illness and poverty.
